Is Lubricating A Fifth Wheel Hitch Necessary

Written by Hitchweb Team Monday, November 9, 2015

Is there any real need to remove the hitch from the bed of my truck? If not, shall I spray lub the whole hitch? With what?

You can remove the 5th wheel at any time. Depending on the rail system you have however, the rails may or may not be permanently attached to the bed of your truck.

Your fifth wheel hitch should be lubricated and checked before each trip using a lithium grease. Lubricate all pivot points where the hitch head moves forward, behind and side to side. If you have a slider unit also, this should also be lubricated.

A King Pin Lube Plate is recommended to prevent metal to metal contact of the king pin on the fifth wheel head unit. No grease is required if you are using a lube plate.

STANDARD CANOPY RACK SYSTEMS:

Here are your configuration options for standard roof rack systems. Below you will find a chart showing:

2015 Toyota Venza Wiring Comparison

Written by Hitchweb Team Wednesday, October 7, 2015

Question: Why are there two different styles of harnesses? One appears to connect to the battery(Part # 118482) and the other does not(Part # 56079). Is one better than the other or used for different application?

Tow Ready T-Connector #118482 installation:

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area....

What Brakes Will Replace The Ones On My 5th Wheel Trailer

Written by Hitchweb Team Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Question: I have a 5th wheel trailer loaded weight of 14,500. The brakes need replacing. They are currently Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes, part numbers 023-464 and 023-465. The actual brakes look like part numbers 023-180 and 023-181 which are not classed as Nev-R-Adjust brakes. There is a $40 difference between sets. Will either set work as well on my trailer?

Reply:

Both brakes will work for your trailer. It comes down to whether you would like to stick with the Nev-R-Adjust Electric brakes or go for regular electric brakes. Nev-R-Adjust electric brakes automatically adjust themselves to proper alignment, regular electric brakes do not do this.

For more information on selecting trailer brakes, see our blog post HOW TO CHOOSE AN ELECTRIC BRAKE
